1/2 off Earth Fare hot/salad bar!!!

01 June 2011

Print this coupon
for 50% off Earthfare's hot bar/salad bar! No extra purchase necessary. This coupon is valid until Sunday, 5 June. If you don't have a printer, or just want to save ink, you can write down the PLU and expiration date on a scrap of paper.

You should be able to use this at Publix, if your store has a salad bar and considers Earth Fare a competitor. YMMV.

Publix trip!

21 March 2011
It's been a little while since we posted about our grocery savings. Not that we haven't been doing some wondermous deals... it's jsut that, well, life be so daily. :) We're beginnning to get a bit of a reputation at our local Publix market. Tonight's list was very short, as we're pretty well stocked up with most of our needs, However, deals like these are just too hard to pass up.

We picked up:
2 packages of beef hot dogs
2 packages of turkey hot dogs
4 Kid Cuisine meals
2 cartons of Florida's Natural OJ
2 Philadelphia Cooking Cremes
2 packages of Vigo yellow rice
2 Reese's PB cups.

Coupons we used:
(2) Buy 1 Oscar Mayer beef hot dogs, get 1 OM turkey dogs free
(2) Buy OM hot dogs, get $1 off Publix produce
(1) Buy 3 OM hot dogs, get 1 free (Target coupon)
(1) Get 1 Philly Cooking Creme FREE

(2) $1 off 2 Kid Cuisine meals
(2) 50¢ off Vigo yellow rice
(1) B1G1 PB cups (Target coupon)
(1) $5 off $25 purchase (CVS coupon)

Our grand total was $3.49; we saved $38.36! That's a 91.7% savings!
(Sorry we didn't get a picture. Long day, long trip home, rush to get frozen items put away.)

God bless your budget!

Our amazing Publix trip!!!

10 January 2011

We never would have thought, a year ago, that we'd ever be able to pull off a deal like this! Combining sales and coupons, we brought home 12 boxes of Special K, 20 jars of Peter Pan peanut butter, 4 packs of sausage, 2 Wholly Guacamoles, 6 ramen noodles, and 1.67 pounds of chicken! We saved $119.91. Our total OOP: $5.19!!!

We're finally starting to build up a nice little stockpile. The Duke has promised to 'build' us a little pantry as soon as he can wrangle some time off. (Not holding our breath, lol!)

God bless your budget!

Coupons in Chung's packages!

01 December 2010
If you bought Chung's during the BOGO sale at Publix, be sure to check inside the boxes! We've been finding coupons inside for $1 off any 2 Chung's Asian food products AND $1 off any Chung's for 2!

Pasta for Pennies at Publix

21 October 2010
We had planned on skipping this week, but just couldn't pass up the Hungry Man and Mueller's deals! Both were BOGO at Publix and we, naturally, had coupons. Four $2 off Hungry Man and 4 $1/2 Mueller's. Our total OOP for everything pictured - 4 frozen dinners and 8 boxes of pasta - was 34¢!

Many thanks to I ♥ Publix and Cha-ching on a Shoestring for helping put together this week's deals!

God bless your budget!

Reversing the cash flow! 19¢ PROFIT!

28 June 2010
We had a short list again today, coz we really wanted some muffins, but payday isn't till Wednesday. We had calculated the total to the penny and reckoned it was going to set us back all of 4¢.

It worked out like this:
(2) ½-gallon cartons Smart Balance milk - BOGO = $3.59
(2) 4-count Publix bakery muffins - also BOGO = $2.89
(4) Kraft Sandwich Shop Mayo @ $1.99 = $.7.96
(4) ears of corn @ 10/$1.49 = 60¢
Grand total = $15.04

We used:
(2) $2/1 Smart Balance coupons
(4) $1/1 Kraft SS Mayo (manuf) coupons
(4) $1/1 Kraft SS Mayo (Publix) coupons
(1) $3/$15 competitor's coupon

We're not entirely sure how it happened, but the cashier said she couldn't accept one of the $1 coupons, because it would result in a negative balance. Stupefied - huh?! - we asked if she couldn't key it down to zero. She consulted the manager, who told her to just scan it in and give us the overage! We walked in the store with a list and a handful of coupons and walked out with a bagful of groceries and 19¢ in our pocket!

We did, eventually, figure out HOW it happened, but we're still not sure just WHY. And frankly, my dear, we couldn't give a hoot! We're doing the making money at the market mambo! ☺

God bless your budget!

Super-saving at the grocery!

23 June 2010
Publix was out of Tony's pizzas the other day, so we made a quick stop this evening, last day of this week's sale. Using five $1/2 Simply Potatoes coupons, four $1/2 Tony's coupons, two Publix coupons for the berries, and one competitor's coupon, we scored 8 pizzas, 10 potatoes and 2 pints of blueberries for exactly... drum roll, please...

$1.00! Average cost per item: 5¢! If we'd been sure they'd accept the particular competitor's coupons we used, we'd have gotten four more Simply Potatoes and paid NOTHING! But we're definitely not complaining!

God bless your budget!

Pinching pennies at Publix

21 June 2010
We've long since lost count of how many times we've been asked, 'Is it really worth it?', when discussing coupons. Well, of course it is! Today's Publix trip is a good example. We spent $8.18, plus the tax on the Kool-Aid, and saved $42.96! That's a little more than 84% off! Average cost per item was just a fraction over 48¢.

How did we do it? Here's the breakdown:
2 Contessa Green Cuisine Meals @ $4.99 - $3.49 each after coupons
2 Eggo Waffles [BOGO] @ $2.59 - 11¢ overage after coupons
2 Bailey's Coffee Creamer [BOGO] @ $2.09 - $1.10 overage after coupons
4 Green Giant Frozen Vegetables @ $1.00 - 75¢ each after coupons
2 Arnold WholeGrain Bread [BOGO] @ 3.69 - no coupons
1 Kool-Aid Fun Fizz Drink Drops @ $1.99 - FREE after coupon
1 Philadelphia Minis @ $1.99 - FREE after coupon
1 pint blueberries @ $1.50 - FREE after coupon
1 5.6-oz raspberries @ $2.00 - 50¢ after coupon
1 tomato @ 79¢ lb. - 52¢, no coupon
And we used a $5/$25 from a competitor

So, are you convinced now? Really, it doesn't take that much time to clip. And most of the legwork has already been done for you. Just google for couponing blogs and you'll find someone who has matched the weekly sales with available coupons. Or click one of the links in our blog roll. Click, snip, save!!!

God bless your budget!

Publix 'recognized'

19 January 2010
From the CFO's Press Office:

CFO SINK CONGRATULATES PUBLIX ON “TOP BRAND” RECOGNITION

TALLAHASSEE — Florida CFO Alex Sink today offered this statement following reports that Publix Super Markets, Inc. is rated the most highly valued brand among the 250 largest retail companies in the world:

“I congratulate Publix on this achievement, and thank them for all they do to create and sustain thousands of jobs in our state” said CFO Sink. “It is essential that we continue to support entrepreneurs and businesses in Florida, so that more businesses are attracted to our state and are able to grow and flourish as Publix has.”

Publix Super Markets Inc. is based in Lakeland, Florida, and more than 700 of Publix’s 1,012 supermarkets are located throughout the state. As the nation’s largest employee-owned supermarket chain, Publix generates $24 billion in annual revenues and employs more than 141,000 nationwide. Publix’s recognition as the most highly valued brand is based on Q ratios, which are calculated as the market value of a company divided by the replacement value of the firm's assets.

Starting up is hard to do

12 January 2010
We started this blog with such good intentions. But it's cold! We're talking C O L D! We live in FL. It's never supposed to be this cold this long. To be honest, we just haven't felt much like shopping. We did do 6 or 7 Chips Ahoy deals at Walgreens and used some of those RR's for newspapers, tp and milk. And we sent Little Lord Parsimony to Publix for a few end-of-sale eatables. We had planned on making the rounds today, but it got to be mid-afternoon and we thought about how long it would take... dusk would surely descend upon us before we got home. We are ill-prepared for freezing temperatures at sunset. Tomorrow is another day. If we can get an earlier start, we should be able to catch up a bit.

In the meantime, we've been putting together our coupon binder. This is going to make things so much easier for us. We've been juggling envelopes and trying to keep track of which coupons we're actually using each trip. We already had most of our needs on hand and we found the best price on the rest on eBay. We're just waiting on one final element to complete the system. Then we'll post pictures.

God bless your budget!
Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

Gaining ground at the grocery

26 December 2009
We think we're getting the hang of this Publix/coupon thing! The other night, we just wanted to grab a few things before the sale ended. Being aware of the 'crackkdown' on coupon usage, we made sure we had a least as many items as Q's. To this end, we grabbed 2 Aunt Jemima products that were BOGO. It kinda went against the grain to not have printed out two $1 Q's for them this time, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. The cashier questioned the $5 Kodak camera Q (one-use cameras were BOGO), but the cashier next door said they were fine. In the end, we got $48.90 worth of groceries for $1.23 (including tax!) So we celebrated by grabbing some hamburger buns and a Mrs. Smith's blueberry pie that we didn't even have coupons for. Turns out, the pie was on sale, though. 8-}
Totals for that trip: $47.67 saved; $7.01 spent.

Thought to think: Had we used Q's for the Aunt Jemima, Publix would have owed us 77¢. Had we not bought them at all, they would have owed us $1.46! In Florida, as far as we've been able to determine, that's an extremely rare occurrence. And we think it would not have worked here, coz we would have had two more Q's than items. Maybe if we grabbed a couple Publix gift cards and made sure they got rung up first...

About Me

My photo
I'm a native-born Florida Cracker, graduated Christian home schooling mom/teacher, jill of all trades and mistress of none. Rising prices and dwindling assets pushed me over the edge from casual to extreme couponing. In the first quarter of 2010, we cut our grocery budget from $1600+/- to $300! I always thought all those 'coupon queen' stories weren't for average people like me. Was I ever wrong! Just jump in and start clipping. Check out some of the super savers in my blog list. Honestly, I know you've heard this before, but REALLY, if I can do it, ANYBODY can!
